The drawing passed by inheritance in 1828 to Javier Goya, the painter's son, and in 1854 to Mariano Goya y Goicoechea, the artist's grandson. It was subsequently owned by Valentín Carderera (ca. 1861) and Mariano Carderera (ca. 1880). In 1886 it was acquired from Mariano Carderera by the General Direction of Public Instruction and was assigned to the Prado Museum, where it entered on 12 November 1886.
This preparatory drawing for the Caprices was never engraved, probably because Goya was not very satisfied with the result. In fact, technically it does not have the quality of other drawings made for later engravings.
In the work, a young man dressed in a cloak and holding a guitar appears flying, while playing and singing, in front of a demure seated girl wearing a long skirt and a cloak covering her hair. The piece could be related to the drawing in Notebook F entitled Religious Woman Frightened by a Ghost, in which a ghost with a guitar appears to a nun.
Work restored with paper reintegration in several areas with losses, mainly in the lower and right edges.
