At the beginning of the 20th century, this work belonged to Antonio de Mazarredo Allendesalazar, who left it to her daughter, Josefa de Mazarredo y Vivanco, Countess of Castellano.
Antonia de Moyúa (not Moyna, as she is sometimes mistakenly called) was the daughter of the Marquis of Rocaverde. Her marriage to Admiral José de Mazarredo y Gortázar produced a daughter, Juana Mazarredo y Moyúa.
The surviving part of this portrait depicts the subject against a dark, neutral background. She has a friendly, smiling face and is dressed in a white blouse with lace at the neck. She also wears a band of golden links in her curly hair, along with a matching necklace and earrings.
Today's critics are divided between attributing the work to Goya or to Agustín Esteve, just as with the portrait of Juana Mazarredo y Moyúa.
It appears that the canvas was cut down following the damage caused during one of the sieges that the city of Bilbao suffered in the course of the Carlist Wars.
