This drawing, like the set of preparatory drawings for the rest of the engravings in the series, was part of the Carderera collection and subsequently passed to the Prado National Museum, where it is now kept.
In the foreground we can see the bat-eared figure writing in a large book resting on his legs. In the drawing, however, we do not see the sphere on which his feet rest, which appears in the engraving. In the background, Goya has depicted several figures, which in the sketch are closer to the central figure than in the print, and one on the left side, which will be eliminated in the engraving.
With regard to the engraving, Goya has not introduced too many novelties, but he works quite precisely in defining the face of the main character in the scene, as well as his posture and his animal features.
