This drawing, like the set of preparatory drawings for the rest of the engravings in the series, was part of the Carderera collection and subsequently passed to the Prado National Museum, where it is now kept.
Engraving no. 75 A charlatan's charade, shows some variations with respect to the preparatory drawing. In the centre of the scene is a figure with the face of a bird of prey - possibly a mask - dressed as a high-ranking ecclesiastical official, kneeling with his arms outstretched. Goya has removed the cross on his chest and the sabre in his hand from the engraving, and the figure is smaller in the print. An arch can be seen in the background, while in the print this architectural structure has been eliminated and replaced by various figures behind the bird and observing the scene.
