The Dream yields them

A group of women stand in a dark room into which the light enters with difficulty through a latticed arch. The central figure in the composition is seated on a rough, uneven floor, her head resting on her hand and her arm on her thigh, in a reflective or drowsy attitude. She has bare feet and a striped ribbon in her hair. Three other women lying and sitting on the ground stand out in the foreground, their white robes contrasting with the darkness of the background; the two at either end - we assume that they are also female figures - appear to be wearing habits with their heads hooded.

This print has given rise to various interpretations; in some cases it has been suggested that they are imprisoned prostitutes and that the hooded figures could be their celestinas. However, the manuscripts in the Prado Museum and the National Library indicate that the image depicts the interior of a convent in which the nuns are said to have had carnal relations with some of the friars, after which they sleep.
