Historia

See A Monk Preaching.

This work was recorded as belonging to the Lafora collection in Madrid during the 1970s. It is probably still in the possession of this family or their descendants.

Análisis artístico

Here, Goya does not represent the carnival scene in the same way as he did in The Burial of the Sardine, blending happiness and fun with madness and danger. In this case, he focuses all attention on the woman who is at the centre of the composition, dressed in a fancy skirt and wearing make-up. Near her are various figures, including a man wearing a pointy hat who is placed behind the woman.
