Alegoría de la Caridad
Title eng: Allegory of Charity (Alegoría de la Caridad)
The young woman that personifies the virtue of Charity is depicted holding three children in her arms. According to Ripa, she should be shown breastfeeding one of them. This is possibly how Goya had rendered the figure in the first version of the sketch that he submitted to the Building Committee which was considered indecorous: "as her figure was less decorous than was appropriate". It is significant that the figure's breast is completely covered in the definitive version of the allegory. The flames above her head and the red mantle are also emblems of Charity.
