See Angel's Head (1)
This head corresponds to that of the angel standing in a frontal position on the left of the composition in the fresco The Adoration of the Name of God.
The beauty of the face follows androgynous iconography, defined by the fullness of the oval, the small, fleshy mouth, straight nose and wide-set, wide-spaced eyes. He uses crossed strokes on the face and neck to create the effects of shading, and traces of chalk can still be seen. This will be the model of the face that Goya will use as a female type for later tapestry cartoons.
It is reminiscent of several drawings in the Italian Notebook, especially the Classical Female Head (p. 63) inspired by the sculpture of Juno Cesi, from the 2nd century BC.
