Historia

By inheritance it passed to Javier Goya, the painter's son (1828), and subsequently to Mariano Goya y Goicoechea, the artist's grandson (1854). It was later owned by Valentín Carderera (ca. 1861), Isidoro Brun (before 1879?) and Pedro Fernández Durán (1897?), who bequeathed it to the Prado Museum, where it entered in 1931.

Análisis artístico

See Woman / Snake

This drawing is a preparatory sketch for Woman / SnakeOn this occasion, Goya placed the mirror at an angle, and instead of depicting the snake coiled around a scythe as in the final drawing, it is on a crutch, a symbol of old age. It is characterised by its very abbreviated technique.
